I was on the lawn for the outdoor sportsmen rally and it got completely destroyed by the foot traffic on the wet ground. It was almost impossible for the land not to get damaged just by having thousands of people trudging over the vulnerable grass at that point.
There was nothing that a crowd of this magnitude could have done to prevent this damage, except not go on the dirt and grass.
As for the Occupy Albany movement, which included people raking up and taking care of their trash, it left almost no noticeable mark on the land. Additionally, they weren't there for the "winter months," as they got evicted a few days into winter and left.

How do people feel about current law, which requires the federal government to forgive loans in the case of death or disability? The federal government accounts for a majority of student loans.

Election Day performance refers to the machine totals.
The machines have not been failing in New York, where they undergo repeat reviewing.
Additionally, a portion of the paper ballots are hand checked against the machine results. This is the simplest way to ensure people aren't programming machines to give results that are different from teh paper ballots.
Machine voting is not akin to secret voting.

The city council basically just went into conference. This happens all the time with the state Legislature, in the state Senate or Assembly, when the majority party will call for a break in the session to hold a conference meeting. In this meeting they decide how to vote on an impending issue.
What happened in the city council meeting isn't unique to a specific political party or level of government. That's not to say it is good or bad, but that it is a recurring element of our two-party system.
