Kathleen: Good reporting. Like the informative nature and the research you did to cover many aspects of this situation. Thanks for mentioning which committees meeting will be held that this will come up for discussion.
It takes courage to be a police officer but it also takes courage to stand behind your work ethics and buck the system as it is now and I don't see that happening. Fellow officers are letting themselves down and our community.
Why is it that it takes a news organization or a private citizen to point out abuses by officers. Where are their fellow officers I am sure their fellow officers know who the abusers are.
If Albany can fire officers why can't we? Kick out those that break the law. Like alleged stealing money for wages not worked or driving drunk. Any officer breaking the a law should be let go. No if's, and's or buts.
I say give the Commissioner and Chaires another year before seriously considering abolishing the police force. I think they are organizing and working towards cleaning things up. We need to support them.
There is a need to have consistency to effect change. I just hope we don't lose Bennett because putting someone else in the same position will not make things better. The new person would take on the same abuses and have to start all over.
Give the team another year and then think about abolishing it.
There is a real need for more mental health services for our youth.
There is also a need for more mental health facilities for our youth to attend to learn how to deal with mental health issues in a more structured way.
Guess what? Our governor is closing youth mental health structured facilities saying they are not needed.
Judy I am lost. Maybe because I haven't listened to that station in a while. Could you expand on what you are referring to? Gosh if they do a short weekly news show from your facility that would be so cool.
In regard to "Want help with lockout? Don’t ask police or sheriff"
I believe this is something Commissioner Bennett would be very interested in hearing about so he can investigate and maybe change the response one gets from dispatchers in situations such at this.
He can be contacted through the police website where they list all the email addresses of those in charge of the various departments. http://www.schenectadypd.com/contact/ind...
By contacting him you may be helping out someone in the future so such things don't happen.
