The robberies in Schenectady with in the last 2 months have gotten too high. Something needs to be done.
The guyanese's people are being targeted just because they make investments into the community instead of drugs.
The polices and the mayor need to come up with some solutions ASAP. It is very scary to feel unsafe in leaving your home and coming back not knowing what to expect.
I am writing in regards to the article “Legislation exempts 6 nonprofits” ‘ by Kathleen Moore on Thursday, June 26, 2008.
I am writing to clarify the real situation.
Faith Deliverance Tabernacle, Inc. was established on January 2007. We purchased the property located at 1028 Ostrander Place from The Classic of Schenectady Reformed Church In America in July 2007.
We had an attorney to do all the legal aspect of the closing, the incorporation and acquiring all the tax exemption that was needed but he failed to filed the proper papers with the City of Schenectady regarding exemptions of property tax. It then came to our attention in September that we needed to do the property tax exemption application, which we promptly did. We were then told the application passed the deadline for 2007 and we would be responsible for about $28,000+ in property tax for 2007 and we would have to wait for the Assessment Office to reasset the property. We didn’t understand why because we brought the property from a non-profit organization and we are a non-profit and we didn’t own the property before the deadline. There were no changes on the property except ownerships.
We wrote to Mayor Brian U. Stratton, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Charles Schumer, Michael McNulty, James Tedisco, George Amedore and several others.
Doors after doors were being closed in our face. We also went to appeal before the Schenectady City Council city council in May 2008 at a public meeting to presents our complaint but to no avail. We were told they couldn’t assist us except for Assemblyman George Amedore. His office was the only one that did the research and said they can draft up a legislation to assist us. His office also works with Assemblyman Tedisco and Senator Farley’s office in getting this legislation pass.
We are writing to request that the Gazette published another article, either to correct the information or do another telling the real truth behind the legislations. Also Assemblyman George Amedore, Assemblyman Tedisco and Senator Farley’s office and staffs need the recognition of a wonderful job well done. They took the time to help us or we would have had to close down or filed bankruptcy. They did the job they were elected to do, which is to help the people.
Any questions, comments, please contact us 518-322-6511 or at 1028 Ostrander Place, Schenectady NY 12303 or at pastor@FaithDeliveranceTabernacle.org.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Sincerely, Chandradat Robert Pastor, Faith Deliverance Tabernacle, Inc.
