Drama club heading to 'Urinetown'
The Saratoga Springs High School Drama Club has chosen "Urinetown: The Musical" for its spring show.
“We chose to do this show because of its relevance to what’s going on today economically and politically not only in the United States, but in Europe and elsewhere,” said director Bob Berenis in a statement. “Although we’ve faced similar issues throughout history, they came to a boiling point in 2008. The economy is beginning to improve, but nothing has been fixed. We live in a world of smoke and mirrors, as this show illustrates.”
"Urinetown" is a story set in a "Gotham-like city" where there is a water shortage that leads to a government ban on private toilets.
The play features about 60 students in cast and crew roles. Musical direction will be done by Jeffrey Halstead and choreography will be organized by Tina Baird and Leigh Berenis.
Performances will run from March 21 to 23 in the Loewenberg Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students or seniors.
