Transporation aid will return to Schenectady school district

State transportation aid will be returned to the Schenectady City School District in stages.

"I was able to get the $4 million for the city," said state Sen. Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna, who has been lobbying for years for the restoration of the state aid that was withheld from the district.

In a voicemail on Wednesday, he said the money will be returned in stages. He also noted that a number of school districts, including Schenectady, had proposals considered for the restoration of aid that was withheld because of technical errors, but not all got money back.

A copy of the letter from the state Education Department talking about the restoration aid is available below.

"I worked very hard on this one," Farley said.
