Gibson vs. Schreibman
An overwhelming victory in Tuesday's Democratic Primary has set up Democrat Julian Schreibman to take on incumbent Republican Chris Gibson in the newly drawn 19th Congressional District.
"I am honored and humbled to receive the Democratic nomination to represent my home here in the Hudson Valley and the Catskills region," Schreibman said in a statement.
His victory came over Dutchess County Legislator Joel Tyner.
Schreibman said that the election in the 19th Congressional District, which includes all or part of Montgomery and Schoharie Counties, "is about whether or not we give our children a better future."
“Congressman Gibson is a nice guy, but his votes are out of step with our values. He voted to end Medicare as we know it, he voted to allow insurance companies to discriminate against New Yorkers with pre-existing conditions, and he voted to cut taxes for millionaires instead of using that money to help the middle class."
His campaign also reiterated the shifts in voter enrollment as a result of redistricting that could make the general election in the fall competitive.
