Families will get rebate next fall

More than 30,000 Capital Region families will receive a controversial $350 rebate check next year.

The state budget that went into effect April 1 includes $375 million in tax relief for families with an income between $40,000 and $300,000. Families must have filed at least two years of state taxes and claimed at least one dependent to be eligible for the rebate, which is good for 2014, 2015 and 2016.

According to the state Division of Budget, this program will cost about $375 million and reach more than 1.07 million people.

In Fulton County it will cost about $600,000 and reach 1791 people. In Montgomery County it will cost $700,000 and reach 1935 people. In Saratoga County it will cost $5.7 million and reach 16,165 people. It will cost $3.4 million and reach 9,619 people in Schenectady County. It will reach 1,038 people and cost $400,000 in Schoharie County.
