Renowned actor against horse slaughter

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Actor Robert Reford doesn't eat horse meat.

At least that's a fair assumption one could make based on a letter he wrote to Equine Advocates President, Susan Wagner, which condemns the practice of horse slaughter. "We need to oppose this unspeakable practice with all our might," Redford wrote.

A copy of the letter is available below.

The letter was written in advance of this weekend's 2013 Annual American Equine Summit, which is hosted by the Equine Advocates in Chatham.

Legislation to ban the slaughter of horses in New York has been introduced in both houses of the state Legislature. Proponents of the legislation, Assemblyman James Tedisco, R-Glenville, and state Sen. Kathy Marchione, R-Halfmoon, spoke out last week.
