JCOPE reaches settlement with National Grid

The New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics and National Grid have reached a settlement regarding improper gifts the energy provider gave to Department of Public Service employees.

According to the settlement, between 2002 and 2010, National Grid gave meals and rounds of golf, to the employees of the DPS, which is responsible for regulating utilities in New York. National Grid has agreed to pay a $25,000 fine and will provide additional ethics employees to its employees.

Additionally, DPS employees Joseph Klesin and Carlos Ortiz also reached settlements with JCOPE.

On an unrelated issue, DPS employee Steven Blaney reached a settlement with JCOPE for sharing draft investigative files about an investigation into a 2008 gas explosion in Queens.
