DiNapoli reveals fiscal profile of Gloversville
The city of Gloversville's long-term population decline continues to hamper its ability to realize economic growth, according to a fiscal profile of the city released this morning by state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The entire profile, which is being distributed in Gloversville today, is available below.
“Gloversville is struggling to cope with considerable economic challenges,” DiNapoli said in a statement.. “Like many upstate New York communities, Gloversville operates with very limited financial flexibility and often struggles with difficult budget decisions. Mayor [Dayton] King and past city officials have been aware of these challenges and have worked hard to build a healthy fund balance and improve the city’s financial operations.”
The profile is being rolled out as part of DiNapoli's campaign for his fiscal monitoring system. This early warning system is to let school districts and municipalities know when they're heading toward a fiscal crisis.
King added in a statement that he was pleased to receive the attention of the comptroller. “I look forward to partnering with the Comptroller and his staff to find new ways to minimize costs while still providing the services that residents of Gloversville expect," he said.
