Leach, FitzGerald earn Man of the Year awards

Defenseman, captain and Altamont native Jay Leach has been named the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for the Albany Devils. The recipients are selected by their respective teams for outstanding contributions to the local community and charitable organizations.

A former Albany River Rat, defenseman Zack FitzGerald received the award for the Adirondack Phantoms.

The Man of the Year recipients from each of the 30 teams in the AHL will comprise the pool from which the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award winner will be chosen. The award is named for the late Yanick Dupré, who died at 24 in 1997 after fighting leukemia for 16 months. He was an AHL All-Star in 1995 and played four seasons with the Hershey Bears. He also played in 35 NHL games with Philadelphia.
