Rookie coach wins Pieri award

The AHL announced the winner of the Louis A.R. Pieri Award is Willie Desjardins of the Texas Stars, who is in his first season as a professional head coach.

Desjardins led the Stars to the South Division championship, which was the franchise's first, and is near clinching the top seed in the Western Conference. The team is tied for the most road wins in the AHL (24), is sixth in the league in offense (3.10 goals per game) and seventh in defense (2.60).
