Barons' Schultz named outstanding defenseman

The AHL named the Oklahoma City Barons' Justin Schultz as the winner of the Eddie Shore Award, which honors the league's most outstanding defenseman for the season.

Schultz is a rookie, the first rookie to win the award in its 55-year history.

In 34 games with Oklahoma City, he has 18 goals, 30 assists and a plus-eight rating. He has seven power-play goals, two short-handed tallies and three game-winners. He had a point in each of his first nine games with the Barons, then later had a 10-game point streak. He was also named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was a First All-Star Team honoree.
