Olesz leaves Devils, will be released
Left wing Rostislav Olesz is on his way to Switzerland.
That's not some weird reassignment by the New Jersey Devils, who hold the contract for the ninth-year player. Olesz decided he wants to play in Europe, and he left the Albany Devils, where he was reassigned earlier this month.
As reported by Tom Gulitti of The Record in Bergen County, NJ, Olesz informed the Devils of his decision and the Devils won't keep him from it. Gulitti's blog can be read here: http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/fireice/comments/devils_place_lw_rostislav_olesz_on_unconditional_waivers/
The formality of it all requires the Devils to suspend him for being absent from the team, then they can place him on unconditional waivers. If no other NHL team claims him off waivers, the Devils will release him from his contract.
In five games with Albany this month, Olesz had a goal and three assists. In 10 games with New Jersey, he had two assists.
