Whitney getting first look at NHL

The New Jersey Devils recalled left wing Joe Whitney from Albany of the AHL today. It will be the first NHL stint for the third-year pro who has led Albany in scoring each season since he finished up at Boston College, where he won two national championships.

This season, Whitney has 16 goals and 20 assists. He is second, all-time, on the franchise's scoring list with 57 goals and 131 points, and he is third in assists with 74.
