Brown gets extension

In a move that wasn't a surprise at all, UAlbany head men's basketball coach Will Brown received a five-year extension to his contract, keeping him with the program, at least contractually, through the 2017-18 season.

Brown is the longest-tenured head coach in the America East Conference and owns a 12-year record of 172-191. He has led the team to three America East titles, tied for the most in the conference. The Great Danes (24-11 overall) won the tournament championship last March and earned their third bid to the NCAA tournament.

"I am pleased to announce that Coach Brown has signed a five-year contract extension," said athletic director Lee McElroy. "Coach Brown and his staff demonstrated that his leadership, with an emphasis on service, athletics and academic excellence, reflects the core values of the university. President Jones and I are delighted that Coach Brown will continue to build character, integrity and accountability with our student-athletes for years to come."
