Danes home, Saints on the road
University at Albany plays its home opener Tuesday night against New Jersey Institute of Technology at SEFCU Arena, and Siena visits Vermont at Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vt.
The 1-0 Great Danes, fresh off their season-opening win over Siena last Friday, should be favored against the Highlanders, who fell to Tulane, 75-64, last Friday night. The Highlanders lost their three double-digit scorers from last season and now have five freshmen and five sophomores on the roster.
Junior Sam Rowley and sophomore Peter Hooley scored 17 points apiece, and new starting point guard D.J. Evans chipped in with 12 in UAlbany's opener. But the Great Danes may be without senior forward Luke Devlin, who hurt his back and took a cortizone shot. His status is up in the air.
Siena looks for its first win of the season and inaugural win for new head coach Jimmy Patsos, who will count in his youth movement for success. Freshmen Maurice White, Lavon Long and Marquis Wright will be key performer for the youthful Saints against the 0-1 Catamounts.
