Danes remain powerhouse

University at Albany's women's basketball team finally returns home after a five-game road trip, and the two-time defending champion Great Danes play their first America East Conference home game by hosting Maine Saturday at 2 p.m. at SEFCU Arena.

The Great Danes are one of only two unbeaten teams left in the conference at 3-0. They are 13-3 overall following an 87-50 win at UMass-Lowell for their fourth straight win.

Sophomore forward Shereesha Richards has carried the Danes most of the season and is averaging a league-best 23.4 points and 11 rebounds a game. She also has 10 double-doubles this season, one shy of the team single-season record owned by Danielle Hutcheson, who did it three times from 2001 until 2005.

Other top players for the Danes include point guard Sarah Royals (12.6 ppg) and 6-foot-9 center Megan Craig (11.3 ppg).

Maine is 3-1 in the league and 9-8 overall. Ashleigh Roberts is the Black Bears' top player at 13.4 points per game. Sophomore forward Liz Wood is next at 12.6 ppg.
