Good day for UAlbany hoops

Some fine individual performances helped both the University at Albany men's and women's teams pick up key victories today.

The UAlbany men (9-9 overall, 3-2 America East Conference) rode a career-high 28 points from Gary Johnson to beat Maine, 85-78, in Orono, while the UAlbany women (4-0 in the league, 14-3 overall) beat the Black Bears, 84-56, behind a career-high 23 points from junior point guard Sarah Royals at SEFCU Arena. The UA women used a 21-2 run in the second half to turn a close game into a rout.

The Siena women (1-7 MAAC, 6-11 overall) dropped a 70-49 decision to host Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. Kanika Cummings and Tehresa Coles scored 10 each for the Saints.

Sunday, the Siena men travel to New Rochelle to play Iona in an attempt to avenge last week's loss to the Gaels at Times Union Center.
