Saratoga Race Course Open House
The Saratoga Race Course’s annual open house, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (7/20) at the track in Saratoga Springs, will raise funds and collect food to benefit local charities. This is the 28th annual open house and the track’s 140th season.
Patrons who donate two nonperishable canned items at the gate will receive a commemorative NYRA gift. Procceds from all food and beverage sales throughout the day will go to local charities and nonprofits such as the Saratoga-Wilton BPOE, the Jewish Community Center, the Children’s Museum, the Racing City Chorus, Living Resources, the Brookside Museum, the Moreau Community Center, Saratoga Bridges, the NE Association for the Blind and the Knights of Columbus.
Admission to the open house is free. Attractions are set to include live music, family fun, handicapping seminars, carnival games and five steeplechase races.
Swirling the Wine
To get the most aroma from your wine, fill your wine glass only about a
third full, and swirl it around to oxygenate. When you’re swirling your
glass, you’re trying to force the wine up the sides, so as much of it as
possible is exposed to air. This opens up the wine, while simultaneously
maximizing the aroma.
If you want to take it even further, suck air through your mouthful of
wine as it sits in your mouth. It makes a slurping sound, and you’ll
generally be considered insufferable, but you’ll get a ton of flavor.
The easiest way to swirl a wine glass without ruining your shirt: hold the
glass by the stem, the way you would hold a pencil, and pretend you’re
drawing circles on the tablecloth.
