Slow Food breakfast and lunch at Sheldon Farms
Sheldon Farms in Salem is hosting two meals on Sunday, July 27, to benefit the Saratoga-area Slow Food chapter, part of the national movement that urges people to take food seriously, turn meals into an event and use the best products available (preferably local or artisanal).
Breakfast, served from 9 to 10:30 a.m., costs $20 ($15 for Slow Food members); lunch, available from 1 to 3:30 p.m., is $5 more.
Food and preparation time are donated, with proceeds going to Slow Food Saratoga. Reservations are required; call 854-7847. Sheldon Farms is located at 4363 State Route 22 in Salem.
Breakfast:
— Gazpacho in cucumber cups (think bloody Mary, BYOV)
— Sweet corn blinis, maple creme fraiche
— Mountain View Farm’s Berkshire bacon, roasted corn, new potato hash
— Hot corn fritters, maple syrup
— Squash blossoms stuffed with Berkshire pork sausage and Al Ducci’s fresh mozzarella
— Chef-made charcuterie
— Mrs. London’s Fire Bread and croissants
— Sissy’s sour cherry and blueberry jams
Lunch:
— Fresh sweet corn and black bean salsa with fresh tortilla chips
— Cochinita pibil (traditional Yucatecan pork shoulder roasted in banana leaves)
— Chef-made tamale
— Pickled red onions
— Red beans and rice with chorizo
— Grilled Sheldon corn with lime butter
— Guacamole
— Tomato onion salsa
— Fresh handmade stone ground white corn tortillas
— Valentina hot sauce
New Orleans night
On Tuesday August 12, The Best Western-Soverign Hotel and Skip Parsons’ Riverboat Jazz Band will join efforts in presenting a special New Orleans Night.
There will be several dinner entrees to choose from including southern fried chicken, creole gumbo, jambalaya and more.
Beads, doubloons and decor will give a Mardi Gras touch as well as the sale of Hurricane Cocktails, and the RJB with their classic New Orleans Jazz.
The Inn is located at 1228 Western Ave, at the Albany city line, where the event commences at 6:30 p.m.
The entire evening is available at $35. per person, which features the all you can eat buffet, and includes tax and gratuity.

Sushi Thai Garden opens in Clifton Park
Sushi Thai Garden, which has restaurants in Saratoga Springs and Williamstown, Mass., last month opened a location in Clifton Park called Sushi Thai at the Park.
Located at 1707 Route 9, in the Halfmoon Plaza, the restaurant serves lunch 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily; dinner is available 5-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, until 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 348-0100.
