The other night, on my way home from a friend’s birthday party, “The Warrior” by Patty Smyth and Scandal came on the radio. As odd as it may sound, Scandal’s hit is one of my favorite songs.
It’s the unofficial theme song of my high school paper, The Warrior. After three years on the staff of the paper, the song has a special meaning for me, even though I’m not entirely sure what it means.
But anyway, that night, I had planned to make a stop at CVS. I pulled into the parking lot, but the song wasn’t over yet. I sat in the car until it was over, singing and dancing all the while.
So why couldn’t I just run into CVS and listen to “The Warrior” at home? After all, I have the song on CD, it’s in my iTunes and it’s on YouTube. Because there’s something so cool about having one of your favorite songs come on the radio, especially if it’s a song like “The Warrior.” I mean, how often do you meet someone who tells you he’s a Patty Smyth and Scandal fan?
So it’s a moment of victory. For 2-1/2 minutes, you can rest assured knowing that you are not the only one who loves Scandal, or whatever other band.
