Get out and vote!
Monday, September 15, 2008

Saturday morning, I was leaving Target when a woman in her twenties asked me in her perky voice, “Are you registered to vote?” The answer was "YES!" I’ve been registered since my birthday and recently changed my registration to Pennsylvania so I could vote in a swing state.

Nothing against New York, but it’s pre-ordained how we’ll be swinging. In Pennsylvania, I might make a difference.

But I’m off topic. Anyway, I’m lucky enough to have this blog as a way of disseminating information, so I thought I would do just that. The deadline to register is quickly approaching. In most states, you need to have your registration in one month before Election Day. That you gives you just under 20 days, so get going!

Also, if you’re like me and in college (but registered to vote in your home state), request an absentee ballot now. If you’re not in college, but won’t be in your district on Nov. 4, request an absentee ballot.

Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, a Libertarian or a Socialist, young or old, male or female, Black or White, vote! I’m new to voting. The primary in January was my first expierence and it's still a thrill for me. I know that I’m making a difference in my government. How cool is that?

It’s easy to get jaded. But every four years, we have the chance to do something incredible (actually every two with the House elections): We get to decide what direction our country should move. So in a month (and I’m sure I’ll write about this again then) get out there and vote! Decide where we’re going.
