Tuesday, October 7, 2008

The Tri-City ValleyCats have been named winner of the New York-Penn League’s John H. Johnson President’s Trophy, which goes to the club exemplifying the standards of a complete baseball franchise.

The league honor nominates the ValleyCats organization for the overall Minor League Baseball Johnson Trophy, which will be named at the Baseball Winter Meetings in December.

“It is extremely gratifying to be named the recipient of the John H. Johnson President’s Trophy,” ’Cats general manager Rick Murphy said in a statement. “Hosting the New York-Penn League All-Star Game provided the organization an opportunity to not only showcase our excellent facility, but the ValleyCats operation to our fans and peers. The award exemplifies the efforts of our entire front office for providing a fun-filled, affordable, family entertainment atmosphere for each fan that walks into the ballpark.”

The ’Cats set a single-season attendance record this season, attracting 140,631 fans.
