It had been over 10 years since I last visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. So, when I learned a few weeks ago that the Hall of Fame was going to celebrate the Philadelphia Phillies' 2008 World Series title, I knew it was time for a road trip.
On Saturday morning, my son Steven, his friend Matteo Iagrossi and I took a drive over to Cooperstown. When we got there close to 11 a.m., the town was a sea of Phillies red. I felt like I was back home in Philadelphia.
My main objective was to see the World Series trophy and get my picture taken with it. I held out hope that I would be able hold the trophy, but no such luck.
It was fun to watch Steven and Matteo look at the various plaques, the videos and the statue of Babe Ruth. Steven also got to play a Phillies trivia game. He and another child played the game set to "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." To view a video of the trip, click HERE.
I also brought my laptop with me, which turned out to be a good thing. I was keeping track of the NHL draft because RPI had the potential of having three players drafted, and Union one. I wanted to be able to update our Web site on the story. As it turned out, RPI recruits Brandon Pirri and Jerry D'Amigo were picked. I even conducted interviews while I was at the Hall of Fame. The people who were watching the World Series video must have though I was nuts leaving a couple of times to conduct my interviews.
We departed for home shortly after 3. It was a fun day. I hope to do it again next year.
