Union recruit update: Johnston lifts Humboldt to win in Royal Bank Cup opener
Union recruit Andrew Johnston had a goal and an assist Saturday night to help the Humboldt Broncos to a 4-1 win over the Woodstock Slammers in Royal Bank Cup opener for both teams.
The five-team Royal Bank Cup, which is being played in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, decides the national champion of Canadian Junior "A" hockey. It runs through May 13.
Johnston assisted on Emrik Guillemette's power-play goal less than six minutes into the game. After John Roach made it 2-0 early in the second, Johnston scored late in the second to give the Broncos a three-goal lead.
The Broncos will face the Penticton Vees Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
