Union recruit update: Johnston scores another game-winner for Humboldt
By Ken Schott
Tuesday, May 8, 2012
Union hockey recruit Andrew Johnston did it again.
Johnston scored the game-winning goal Tuesday to help the Humboldt Broncos to a 3-0 win over the Soo Thunderbirds in the Royal Bank Cup.
The Broncos, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champions, improve to 3-0 in the tournament that decides the Canadian Junior "A" national champion.
Johnston didn't wait until overtime to score the winner like he did in Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Penticton Vees. Johnston scored 1:39 into the second period to snap a scoreless tie.
Johnston has three goals and an assist in three games.
The victory means the Broncos (3-0) advances to the semifinals. They have one more game in the prelims. They face the Portage Terriers at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
