Clifton Park overcomes four-run deficit to beat Jasper, 7-6, in 14YO Babe Ruth World Series
Clifton Park scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to overcome a 5-1 deficit and take a 7-6 victory over Jasper (Ind.) in the 14-year-old Babe Ruth World Series on Sunday in Moses Lake, Wash.
Clifton Park improves to 2-0.
Matt Straney's RBI single ignited the rally in the fifth to make score 5-2. Nikolas Malachowski's RBI double made it 5-3. Ben Anderson cut the lead to 5-4 with an RBI single. Kevin Huerter tied it with an RBI single.
In the sixth, Mike Spulnick was hit by a pitch with one out. Mike Jeffers doubled him home, and he scored on Straney's RBI single.
Jasper scored a run in the seventh.
John Cady pitched three innings of one-hit relief to earn the win. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
Anderson, Huerter, Jeffers, Spulnick and Straney paced Clifton Park's 14-hit attack with two hits apiece.
Clifton Park is off Monday. It returns to action Tuesday when it faces Moses Lake at 11 p.m.
