Ex-RPI goalie York to play for Canada in Spengler Cup
Former RPI goalie Allen York will be part of Team Canada for the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland. The tournament starts Thursday and runs though Dec. 31.
York played for the Engineers from 2008-11. He won the Ken Dryden Award as the top goalie in ECAC Hockey in 2010-11. He was 18-11-4 record with a 2.17 goals against average and a .924 save percentage that season, leading RPI to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1985.
York gave up his senior season to sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the NHL team which drafted him. York spent two full seasons in the organization, and played 11 games with the Blue Jackets in 2011-12.
York is currently with the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. He also spent time with two other AHL teams this season, the Charlotte Checkers and Texas Stars. He has also played with the ECHL's Evansville Icemen.
