Ex-Union hockey player Todd to join Nebraska-Omaha coaching staff
Former Union defenseman Alex Todd is moving up.
After spending the last eight seasons as head coach of the NCAA Division III Castleton State men's hockey team, Todd will be joining Division I Nebraska-Omaha as an assistant coach. First reported by the Omaha World-Herald, the official announcement by the Mavericks should come this week.
Todd, 34, played defense and wing for the Dutchmen from 1997-2001. He was an assistant coach at Utica College for a year before taking over the Castleton State program that was struggling. Todd turned things around, compiling a 114-79-21 record.
Todd is the second former Union hockey player to be hired for an assistant coaching position this offseason. Last month, Joel Beal, who was a Union volunteer assistant coach the last two years, joined Sacred Heart as a full-time assistant coach.
