Ex-Union forward Mingoia commits to Providence
Former Union College forward Trevor Mingoia will be reunited with the coach that recruited him to the Dutchmen.
Mingoia announced on his Twitter account Thursday that he has committed to Providence College for next season. He will rejoin Friars coach Nate Leaman. It was Leaman who recruited Mingoia from the Berkshire School. Mingoia had 20 goals and 28 assists in 29 games for Berkshire in 2010-11.
With the Dutchmen last season, Mingoia had three goals and three assists in 18 games. He had a two-goal game against Dartmouth on Jan. 7, 2012.
Mingoia didn't play in any of Union's first three games this season because he had been injured in a skill session prior to the season-opening game against Merrimack on Oct. 6. He left Union in late October and joined the U.S. Hockey League's Tri-City Storm. Mingoia is the Storm's fifth-leading scorer with nine goals and 26 assists in 39 games.
Mingoia will have three years of college eligibility.
Mingoia was named a co-USHL forward of the week on Monday. He had four goals and two assists in three games last week.
