Carpenito named Union women's hockey assistant coach
Nick Carpenito has been named assistant coach for the Union women's hockey team, the school announced Monday.
Carpenito, a 2011 Northeastern graduate, replaces Julie Chu, who resigned after the season. He comes to the Dutchwomen from Elmira College, where he was an assistant coach for the varsity team and the head coach of the junior varsity team the last two years. Elmira won the NCAA Division III title in March.
"We are excited to have Nick join our staff," Union coach Claudia Barcomb said. "He brings a great deal of energy and experience to our team and comes from a highly successful Division III program. I look forward to what he is going to add to Union women’s ice hockey.:
In Carpenito's two seasons at Elmira, the team posted a 44-10-2 record, with a 29-5 mark in ECAC West contests. Last season, Elmira had the No. 1 scoring defense in all of Division III women’s ice hockey, allowing just 1.10 goals per game and second best penalty kill in the nation at 92.7 percentage. Elmira also had the nation's No. 4 scoring offense at 4.10 goals per game.
