Union hockey recruit Kevin Shier scored twice, and RPI hockey recruit Michael Prapavessis added a goal and an assist to lead the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots to a 4-1 win over Fort Frances in the opening game of the Dudley Hewitt Cup tournament on Tuesday in Wellington, Ontario.

Shier, a forward, gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead with 1:28 left in the first period. Prapavessis, who assisted on the goal, got one of his own with 7:25 left in the second.

With the Patriots holding a 2-1 lead in the third, Shier scored his second of the game with 5:45 remaining.

The Patriots face Kirkland Lake in the four-team round-robin tournament at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The tournament winner advances to the Royal Bank Cup, which determines the champion of Canadian Junior "A" hockey.
