Tappen joins NBC Sports Group
Kathryn Tappen, best known as the host of "NHL Tonight" on NHL Network and the wife of former Albany Devils defenseman Jay Leach, is joining NBC Sports Group full time, it was announced Wednesday.
Tappen will work on "NHL Live," "Football Night in America," Notre Dame football, and as a host of additional studio programming. She will be the sideline reporter on Notre Dame football. Tappen will also be part of NBC Sports’ coverage from Super Bowl XLIX in January-February 2015, and NBC Olympics’ coverage of the Summer Games from Rio de Janeiro in August 2016 and the Winter Games from Pyeongchang, South Korea, in February 2018.
Tappen will continue to work for the NHL Network. This is a solid hire for NBC.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the NBC Sports team and to work on some of the most high-profile events in sports,” Tappen said in a statement. “This opportunity represents the best of both worlds as I can continue to work on hockey, including signature events for NHL Network, while also covering sports that I’ve worked on in the past and have had a passion for since childhood, such as the Olympics, the NFL and college football.”
