Astros promote Reed from ValleyCats to Quad Cities

The Houston Astros promoted first baseman A.J. Reed from the short-season Class A Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League to the Class A Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League, the team announced Sunday morning.

Reed, the Astros' second-round pick in last month's Major League Baseball first-year player draft out of Kentucky, played in 34 games for the 'Cats. He batted .306 with five homers and 30 RBI, both tops on the 'Cats. He also led the team with 11 doubles. Just over a week ago, Reed won the Golden Spikes Award as the top college baseball player.

In his final game with the 'Cats on Saturday, Reed went 2-for-2 with a homer, drove in four runs and scored three times as Tri-City routed Staten Island, 16-3.
