Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake remained at No. 2 in the state Class A football rankings after its 54-13 regional victory over Franklin Academy-Malone last week at Steuerwald Stadium.

The Spartans (11-0) have been No. 2 for much of the season behind No. 1 Sweet Home of Section VI (11-0), which thumped Rochester Aquinas, 33-7, in its regional game last week.

Sweet Home boosted its win streak to 24 games with that triumph. The win streak includes last year’s 35-28 state title-game win over Burnt Hills, and the two teams could meet again Nov. 28 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse if both are successful Friday night.

Burnt Hills plays Cornwall (8-2) at Dietz Stadium in Kingston in one Class A semifinal, and Sweet Home takes on Whitesboro (10-1) in another at Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester. Both semifinals start at 8 p.m.

Troy (9-1) is ranked No. 13 among Class A teams and Gloversville (7-2) is No. 19 on the latest New York State Sportswriters Association poll. Other Section II ranked teams are Saratoga Springs (No. 10, 9-1), Ballston Spa (No. 19, 8-2) and LaSalle (No. 25, 8-1) in Class AA; Schalmont (No. 6, 9-2) and Lansingburgh (No. 12, 8-2) in Class B); Hoosick Falls (No. 4, 11-0), Chatham (No. 9, 9-1) and Cambridge (No. 14, 7-2) in Class C); and Rensselaer (No. 11, 9-2) in Class D.

Saratoga Springs, Schalmont and Hoosick Falls will compete in state semifinal games Saturday in Kingston. Schalmont had never won a postseason game before this season.
