Life was anything but easy growing up on Cutler Street during the early 1940s. At the time, the bustling street in Schenectady’s Mont Pleasant neighborhood was crowded with low-income and immigrant families. Poverty was common, and there was seldom time to do anything but work.

Ten Section II football teams are among those ranked on the latest state poll released by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Here’s a look at where those teams stand, as well as top-ranked teams and Section II’s honorable mention selections.

Class AA: 1. Monroe-Woodbury-Section IX (8-0); 15. Saratoga Springs (7-1); 20. Ballston Spa (7-1); 24. LaSalle (7-1). HM: Schenectady (6-2), Shenendehowa (5-3).

Class A: 1. Sweet Home-VI (8-0); 2. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (8-0); 6. Troy (8-0). HM: Gloversille (7-1), Niskayuna (6-2).

Class B: 1. Seaford-VIII (7-0); 10. Lansingburgh (7-1). HM: Cohoes (6-2), Hudson Falls (5-3), Schalmont (6-2).

Class C: 1. Jamestown-Southwestern-VI (8-0); 7. Hoosick Falls (8-0); 10. Cambridge (7-1); 12. Chatham (8-0). HM: Granville (7-1), Voorheesville (6-2), Fonda-Fultonville (6-2).

Class D: 1. Westmoreland-III (8-0); 10. Rensselaer (7-1. HM: Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons (6-2); Greenwich (6-2).

Note: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Troy, Hoosick Falls and Chatham are among 49 unbeaten teams remaining in the state.
