School Volleyball: BH-BL's streak
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake varsity girls’ volleyball team has an incredible win streaks going with 329 consecutive Suburban Council victories.
The streak began back in 1990 after Shenendehowa dealt the Spartans a 15-10, 15-9 setback. Win No. 1 in the streak came a day after that loss, a 15-11, 15-5 triumph against Colonie on Oct. 5.
Burnt Hills won its 100th consecutive league match in 1997, its 200th straight in 2004 and its 300th in succession in 2011. All of the wins have come with coach Gary Bynon, who took over the program in 1988.
Burnt Hills’ other current streaks include 25 straight league championships, including a tie for first in 1989; 16 straight appearances in Section II finals; and 11 straight Section II and regional championships. Burnt Hills has won back-to-back state Class A championships to go with its New York crowns in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Burnt Hills is 560-53 overall with Bynon, with 21 appearances in Section II finals, 18 area flags and 14 regional victories.
Burnt Hills graduated seven seniors from its 29-2 2012 edition led by first-team all-state performers Siena Wilder and Molly McCormack. Its returning cast includes Kathleen and Natalie Schurman, and Jessica Dillon. The Spartans make their league debut Friday (Aug. 30) at Colonie.
