School Notes: College picks

Joey Lufkin of state Class D basketball champion Argyle is headed to Hartwick College of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference.

Lufkin averaged 29.9 points as a junior and 32.8 as a senior in leading the Scots to a 24-0 record. The state tournament MVP and New York State Sportswriters Association’s Class D Player of the Year finished with 2,146 points to rank No. 6 on the all-time Section II list.

Lufkin set an Argyle single-game record with 54 points in a win over Whitehall.

LYON COMMITS

Schuylerville basketball standout Shane Lyon has committed to Adelphi University of the Northeast-10 Conference.

Lyon, the Wasaren League MVP, scored his 1,000th career points in the Black Horses’ loss to Watervliet in the Section II Class B final.

The 6-foot-4 Lyon averaged 15.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists, and made the all-state Class B fifth team.
