School notes: College commitments

Niskayuna High School athletes Olivia Jaquith, Allyson Mayo and Aaron Simone recenently signed with Division I Marist College, the University of Buffalo and Rider College, respectively.

With a Section II indoor 300 championship among her senior credentials, Jaquith will run for Marist. Aside from the 300, she ran the team’s fastest indoor times in the 45 and 200, and had the Silver Warriors’ best outdoor times in the 200 and 400.

Jaquith, who will major in journalism, helped Niskayuna’s soccer team put together a 16-1-1 record last fall.

Mayo will serve as a coxswain for the Buffalo crew team while studying accounting and international business.

Mayo has been a Niskayuna crew member since 2006. Mayo said the highlight of her scholastic career came last fall when she guided Niskayuna’s senior 8 to 29th at the Head of the Charles after the Silver Warriors were seeded 85th out of 89 entries. Niskayuna later placed second at the New York State championshipsand qualified for national competition.

As a sophomore, Mayo was the coxswain when Niskayuna’s junior varsity 8 placed third at the state championships. As a junior, she guided Niskayuna’s senior 8 to a fifth at the state championships. Both of those boats advanced to the national event.

Mayo has been a fall and spring semester scholar-athletes as a sophomore, junior and senior.

Simone was a five-year member of Niskayuna’s varsity golf team, and twice made the Section II all-star team and twice competed at the state championships. Over his last three seasons, he helped the Silver Warriors compile a 39-9 record.

Simone will major in business. He also played baseball for Niskayuna.
