School football: Cerrone's Dome bid

First-year Schenectady football coach Mark Cerrone came up short in his bid to go 2-0 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse Friday night when his Patriots lost to Fayetteville-Manlius, 55-20, as part of the Kickoff Classic.

Cerrone was the starting center for Bishop Maginn back in the 1995 season when the Golden Griffins beat Vestal at the Carrier Dome, 37-14.

New Fayetteville-Manlius coach Damien Rhodes also had high school-level success at the Dome, and it also came against Vestal, in a 2001 Section III playoff game. Rhodes ran for four touchdowns in a 41-13 win. He went on to play four years at Syracuse University.

The Schenectady game against Fayetteville-Manlius was one of nine scheduled for the three-day Kickoff Classic which benefits the National Football Foundation.
