School baseball: Anderson notes

By James Schiltz
Thursday, April 10, 2014

Schalmont baseball coach Bob Anderson picked up his 300th varsity win Thursday when the Sabres topped Watervliet, 10-0, in a Colonial Council game.

The Anderson family enjoyed another milestone the day before, when the coach’s son, Ian, made his first appearance for Shenendehowa’s varsity and earned the save in a 6-5 Suburban Council win over Saratoga Springs.

Ian Anderson came on in the top of the seventh after Kyle McAlonie gave Shenendehowa a 6-5 lead with an RBI single in the sixth.

“I got to see it. It was nice,” said Bob Anderson, whose Wednesday game at Fonda-Fultonville was postponed. “My other son is on the JV and I went to pick them up. I didn’t expect to see Ian on the mound.”

Ian Anderson, a sophomore, gave up one hit in his one inning of shutout relief.

Bob Anderson joined his former high school mentor, the late Bruce Bouck, in Schalmont’s 300-win club. Another Schenectady County coach, Chris Wyanski of Duanesburg, got his 300th win last season.
