School hoop: Mekeel wins WAC Cup

Mekeel Christian Academy built a halftime lead and held off Saratoga Central Catholic, 60-57, to win its third straight WAC Cup championship Tuesday night at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Mekeel (17-1) beat Canajoharie in the semifinals before Mano Senthil scored 13 points and C.J. Mulvey netted 10 in the Lions’ ninth straight victory. The Saints (15-3), who got 18 points from Michael Naughton and 12 out of Keegan Murphy, had beaten Duanesburg in the semis.

Mekeel lost in the regular season only to Duanesburg.

Mekeel won the Western Athletic Conference Southern Division title, while Saratoga Catholic was tops in the WAC Northern Division.
