Here we go again – another Schenectady cop in trouble. This time it’s Detective Sherri Barnes, who works in the police department’s Youth Aid Bureau.
All that Chief Mark Chaires will say, as relayed through department spokesman Kevin Green, is, “She’s on paid suspension pending an internal investigation.”
He will neither confirm nor deny the report I received that she is accused of forging drug prescriptions. I hasten to say I don’t know if the report is true.
The problem is we might never find out, unless she winds up being charged with a crime. If it remains an internal disciplinary matter, it will stay a secret per Section 50-a of the state Civil Rights Law, and how’s that for an expansive use of the term civil rights?
As for paid suspension, meaning you don't work but still get your paycheck, I believe that's what the rest of the world calls a vacation, but I won't get into that.
I just wonder, will Schenectady cops never learn?
