Brian Lillis, an all-conference performer in basketball, and Amber Maisonet, an all-region outfielder in softball, have been selected the University at Albany's Male and Female Athletes of the Year as voted by the head coaches of the school's 19 intercollegiate sports.
Lillis, a senior guard from Urbandale, Iowa, was a first-team All-America East Conference selection and was voted the 2008 America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year. He was one of 10 players at the NCAA Division I level to lead his team in points (16.1 ppg), rebounds (6.0 rpg) and assists (3.5 pg).
Lillis scored 20-plus points on five occasions, including a career-high 29 against Vermont in early January. He finished his career ranked among UAlbany's all-time leaders in assists (269), steals (169) and blocked shots (59).
Maisonet, a senior from Newburgh, was voted to the first team All-America East Conference team for the fourth straight season. She was an All-ECAC all-star and was second on the All-Northeast Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Maisonet ranked 21st nationally in triples (five) and was 24th in stolen bases (27). She batted .379 with 61 hits and 33 runs socred. Maisonet finished her career as the Great Danes' all-time leader in hits (233) and runs scored (151). She ended up second in stolen bases (96) and fourth in career batting average (.360).
