Real reality TV

Sports is the ultimate reality TV.

I'm not a fan of the other "reality TV" stuff with people trying to survive tough conditions on remote islands or a bunch of young adults living together with everyone watching their every move.

The GolfChannel's Big Break series is my cup of tea. You really can't fake the effort put forth in sports competition, and golf is one of the most demanding skill sports around. Watching the women of the Big Break series square off in real golf competition in order to get a chance at playing in a few LPGA stops is pure drama.

Plus, it's kind of fun to see how these women react to each other. For anyone who watches the series, you know what I mean. It seems the latest player to be eliminated, Christina, didn't have a friend on the show after she eliminated one of the favorites, didn't use much golf etiquette and let her emotions get the best of her on more than one occasion.

There are three women left, and all three are outstanding golfers: long-hitting Kim, Sophie from the European tour and Lori. I must point out that I know Lori Atsedes quite well, because she's been a mainstay on the Futures Tour for about a decade and has won seven times. Since she's from Ithaca, we've done numerous stories on her as one of New York's best players on the Futures Tour.

Lori is not only a top-notch player who has already competed on the LPGA Tour, but she also loves to play mind games with the other less experienced players. She's not always the easiest to get along with, and she knows how to psyche out the other contenders.

It will be interesting to see who wins this season's event, because the ultimate prize not only includes plenty of money and prizes, but also several exemptions on the LPGA Tour.

Now that's reality TV.
