The 50 greatest bowlers
Friday, June 27, 2008

The Professional Bowlers Association recently announced its list of the sport's "50 Greatest Players in PBA History."

What a list.

Among the best of all time are Walter Ray Williams Jr., Dick Weber and Earl Anthony, who dominated bowling from the 1950s through the last decade.

The list, which also includes all-time greats like Don Carter, Mark Roth and Pete Weber, was selected from an original group of 100. A committee of 34 people, including members of the media, bowling industry and coaches, made the selections.

Later this summer, the committee will have the extremely difficult task of ranking the players 1 through 50.

The 50 Greatest Players will be introduced as part of a gala celebration for the golden anniversary of the PBA Tour at the Tournament of Champions Jan. 19-25 at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas.

Who's your all-time best? Do you have a favorite top 10? By the way, it was great to see Kingston's Dave Ferrara on the list. What a super guy. Many people compete in his tournament every year, and he comes to the Capital Region every once in a while to compete or to watch his son, who was a member of the Hudson Valley Community College team.
