Bowling is a game of adjustment, but rarely do bowlers have to make major changes for every game.
That's what many of the area's top bowlers faced in today's Towne Bowling Academy's Scratch Challenge.
The format called for five games rolled on five different PBA oil patterns. Two pairs of lanes were oiled for each of the Chameleon, Cheetah, Scorpion, Shark and Viper lane conditions. Every bowler had to compete on each condition at some point during the tournament.
Craig Taylor of Rotterdam finished with a 1,027 five-game series, but he tossed only a 153 in his final game. It was just enough to hold off Dustin Paupst (1,020). Taylor earned $500, and Paupst took home $250. Other cashers were Josh Corum (1,015, $125), Ray Cyr (1,009, $100) and Pete Dougherty (1,003, $80).

Impressive how a bowler could compete in Rotterdam while still in North Carolina! Myself, I couldn't reach 1,000 pins in 100 games.
