Yankee fans rejoice. This one feels special.
The 27th World Series title for the Yankees is the first in the new Yankee Stadium. It's the first one for Joe Girardi as manager after getting several as a Yankee catcher. Many Yankee fans were hard on him after losing beloved former manager Joe Torre, but now the other Joe can take a bow. It's also special because the Yankees won it for the Boss, George Steinbrenner, who is ailing.
Sure, the Yankees spend the most money in baseball, and baseball fans that hate the team because of it have a good point. But you must admit that the Steinbrenner family and Yankee management do everything they can to win, and they put the millions of dollars they make back into the team with the likes of CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira.
Super postseason for WS MVP Hidecki Matsui (I hope they resign him), Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon and Mariano Rivera. Decent World Series for Alex Rodriguez, who finally got a ring and the postseason monkey off his back.
It was a great team effort and a fun season to watch. Even Yankee haters respect players like Jeter, Rivera and Andy Pettitte.
Hats off to the Philadelphia Phillies. They kept battling right to the end, even to the last at-bat. They were very scary, especially Chase Utley.
It's time to pull out the pinstripes again. Please give us a break when you see us wearing our T-shirts and jerseys with pride. Some of us can be a little obnoxious at times, but it's been a while since we've been able to celebrate.
