Ford has a better idea

Bob Ford Field is a lot like his namesake. Top of the line.

I took a tour this afternoon with associate athletic director Rick Coe, and the place is terrific. It seats 8,500, but can be expanded to even more later on. Of course, purple and gold are everywhere.

The concourse area on the "home" side of the field is magnificent, and it includes a gorgeous press box with four luxury suites -- which are already sold.

The scoreboard will be a far cry from the old one at University Field. This state-of-the-art video scoreboard has room for a message center and replays.

Fans will love their new digs. There will be two huge concession stands under the press box, and as many as six other food kiosks all over the field. Rest rooms will be plentiful, and there is also plenty of leg room.

The artificial surface on the field is also state-of-the-art and will be quite a bit different than the old grass digs at University Field.

The Great Danes open their home season Sept. 14 against Rhode Island. UAlbany officials expect a sellout.

I give Bob Ford Field an A-plus. Just like the coach himself.
